The second year of college is a time of critical transitions as many students reevaluate their sense of self, relationships with peers, sense of connection to the institution, academic plans, and professional aspirations. Researchers have invoked the notion of a “sophomore slump” to describe these developmental challenges and noted that the second year of college is a time when students remain at increased risk of departure. Compared to widely available first-year resources, institutional support for second-year students is often more limited.
